Streetscape street printing phase scheduled to begin next week

REIDSVILLE — The final step of pavement improvements in the city’s Downtown Streetscape project is slated to begin with the street printing operations on Southwest Market Street and South Scales Street starting Monday, weather permitting.

Work crews are starting at the intersection between SW Market Street (between Gilmer Street) and Settle Street to recoat existing crosswalks and the midblock crossing on SW Market Street between Gilmer Street.

To complete this work, it is necessary to close SW Market and the intersection daily. The work will take approximately two days.

The contractor will then begin a process similar to the one above at the intersection of Settle Street with South Scales Street. Settle Street will be required to close. The contractor expects this portion of work to take a day.

Contractor will install the crosswalk in the 200-block of South Scales Street on May 18-19. The closure of one lane in each direction will minimize the disruption.

During the week beginning May 22, street printing will commence at the intersection of South Scales Street with Gilmer Street. Gilmer Street and South Scales Street will be closed daily for this work.

The contractor will then move on to the roundabout located at the intersection of W. Morehead Street, S. Scales Street, and, depending on the weather conditions and progress made, continue the work until the week of May 26th. The intersection in question will be closed until the completion of the project.

Since a majority of the work above is located within the intersections, the city’s Public Works Department will set up barricades and cones to allow as much parking as possible to minimize impacts to adjacent merchants while maintaining a safe working environment for the contractor, according to city officials.

Officials reminded residents that dates can change depending on the weather conditions and progress of the contractors.
