The most important day by day newspaper in St. John’s is reducing its print run from day by day to weekly.

The Telegram introduced late Wednesday afternoon, by way of an article on its web site, that after Saturday its print and digital editions will now not be distributed day by day, with the primary weekly version to be revealed Aug. 30. The outlet will proceed to publish information day by day on its web site, says the article.

“Newsroom workers will proceed sharing the breaking information and have tales which are vital to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians on our web site,” says the article, credited to “Saltwire workers.”

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court docket of Nova Scotia accepted a $1-million bid from Postmedia for the bancrupt Atlantic newspaper chain SaltWire Community, homeowners of the Telegram, and Halifax Herald Ltd. The sale, which incorporates the 145-year-old Telegram, is anticipated to shut Saturday. Because the deal was introduced, the way forward for the Telegram and its workers has been unclear.

CBC Information has requested for remark from the Telegram, SaltWire and Postmedia.

In a current interview with CBC Information, Nathan Roberts, a press operator and treasurer for Unifor, the union that represents the paper’s printing workers, famous Postmedia didn’t purchase the printing press, leaving employees unsure about their employment.

“I do not suppose most of us have utterly understood what all of this was going to imply,” Roberts instructed CBC Information final week.
