Montana man allegedly found in possession of forged bills, printing machine charged with felonies

CHUBBUCK — A Manhattan, Montana man was caught with half-printed fake $100 bills on a printer, police say. Now he is facing multiple charges.

Court records indicate that Kyle Dean Musgrave (34), has been charged felonies, including possession of a forgery and possession of counterfeiting equipment, and misdemeanors, such as obstruction of an officer.

Bannock County Sheriff’s deputies conducting drug interdiction surveillance around 3 p.m. July 17 stopped a white van following what they believed to be a drug transaction, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The van driven by Musgrave stopped at the Extended Stay Motel in Chubbuck. One of its passengers then went inside for a brief time before returning back to the van. The deputies noticed that as the van left West Burnside Avenue and drove onto West Burnside Avenue the rear door was open.

Officers approached a passenger, who was walking away from a van towards a neighborhood nearby. The officers saw Musgrave, the other passenger and the van as they approached.

A deputy was sent to follow them. Musgrave ran when he saw that he had been followed. Officers pursued Musgrave and “forcibly stopped” him near 900 Wilson Avenue.

Officers found two fake $100 bills on Musgrave when they searched him. The affidavit says that, in addition to the “noticeable appearance” of counterfeit bills, one of the bills was missing the printing on its back side.

Officers searched the van again and found an additional computer scanner and printer, which contained counterfeit bills all displaying the exact same serial number.

Musgrave has been arrested and is currently being held at the Bannock County Jail on a bond of $30,000.

Musgrave may have been charged with the crimes listed above, but that does not mean he has committed them. All are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Musgrave faces up to 29 years of prison if he is found guilty.

He is due to appear Monday before Magistrate Carol Tippijarman for a preliminary hearing.
