Michelin Japan creating 3D printed future for emerging businesses

admin

A metal-lamination plant that opened in April has been accelerating the development of innovative products by using its 3-dimensional metal printers. It also collaborates with small and medium-sized companies in order to promote innovation.

The new facility, named Michelin AM Atelier, is operated by Nihon Michelin Tire which, with other companies, conducts research and developments in Ota Gunma Prefecture. It combines 3D Metal Printers with additive manufacturing technology (AM), which creates objects by layering materials.

The Japanese division of the French tire maker expects to make significant contributions to manufacturing technology advancements, which in turn will lead to the creation of a new network of complementary businesses.
