Maricopa Co. launching investigation into ballot printing issues

County officials stated that they have requested Ruth McGregor, the former Chief Justice of Arizona Supreme Court to investigate why some printers couldn’t read ballots.

MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. — Maricopa County officials have asked a former Arizona Supreme Court justice to lead an investigation into the printer issue that caused problems at some polling places on Election Day in November.

The Board of Supervisors asked Ruth McGregor, former Chief Justice, to form a team of experts to investigate why some county printers could not read the ballots during the general elections.

This issue caused voters to have to wait in long lines. Some were also asked to place their ballots inside a special box, so they could be transported to another voting center.

According to county officials, the printers were tested on November 7th and had no apparent issues. However, some election workers observed that tabulators were having trouble reading ballots printed on the BOD printers.

County officials attempted to reassure voters on Election Day that they could still submit their ballots if they waited for the tabulation machines or went to another polling center.

Republican Kari Lake tried to claim that equipment problems in Maricopa County disenfranchised voters, and was grounds for challenging Gov. Katie Hobbs. Last month, Lake’s challenge to the election was rejected by a judge at Maricopa County Superior Court.

McGregor was a member of the state Supreme Court between 1998 and 2009. McGregor served as the state Supreme Court’s prosecutor from 1998 to 2009.
