Imageco Transforms Greyhound Box’s On-Site Portacabin Meeting Room Using the PONGS® Descor® Track System

Since becoming an accredited installer through CMYUK, this was the first commercial installation of digital wide-format businesses.

CMYUK, Shrewsbury: Imageco, the multi award-winning digital wide-format printing company, has completed its first Descor® installation for the Leeds-based corrugated case manufacturer and supplier, Greyhound Box.

Imageco was contacted by the business to help it brand its portacabin meeting area in its factory. This would also create a more pleasing environment for employees and visitors. Traditionally-speaking, the construction would involve boarding out the cabin interior and then applying a pasted wallcovering on top. However, after visiting the site, Imageco MD Nathan Swinson-Bullough realised that the PONGS® Descor® track system would be perfect for the job. The client was willing to oblige, and Imageco’s internal graphic designer was briefed to create the aesthetic for the job.

DESCOR® is an innovative application for textile interiors that offers a smart alternative to conventional surface design. Arkutex, CMYUK’s architectural surface textiles division, has the only access to the subtle track system. This allows single-piece tension textiles to cover walls and ceilings. They can also be used on panels of any size or shape. The substructure is hidden behind the textile. The textile is stretched drum-like onto the track profile using a special spatula. This quick, easy-to-install solution, which eliminates the need to make repairs, also integrates HVAC services and essential lighting. It doesn’t interfere with any underlying architectural features, so it can be used for the interior refurbishment of notable buildings. Images can be changed easily and cost-effectively whilst retaining the track infrastructure – making this is a suitable solution for brand-immersive events.

Perfectly formed and small project
Both Nathan and Imageco Operations Manager, Ed Hillam attended the Descor® training programme in the autumn of last year organised by Arkutex. Taking place at the PONGS® showroom in Dusseldorf; the visit was inspiring as it was instructional.

“It really opened my eyes to the creative possibilities of the Descor® system. Sometimes we’ll come across walls that aren’t always good for wallpapers and need a lot of prep work, so this system is perfect for getting round that,” says Nathan.

Imageco opted to use a PONGS® Descor® textile for the printable stretch textile surfaces for this job. Imageco used the EFI VUTEk LX Pro UV LED printer for the production of the material. It also included textured and patterned effects. Imageco also installed lighting that created a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere.

Says Nathan, “This is our first commercial job using Descor® and it has already had enquiries off the back of it. I can see this solution being used across a variety of spaces. It is possible to produce traditional wallcoverings in interiors. However, it is good to have this option. The textiles that can be used with Descor® also include acoustic and anti-bacterial solutions, so the potential of this product in sectors such as educational, heritage and hospitality is very interesting. It’s now a case of educating our clients to the potential that this type of application can bring.”
