Hewlett-Packard (US-based technology firm) has launched HP PageWide C550Press. This is its latest high-speed post-print digital corrugated paper.
The new single-pass platform, based on the C500 press is designed to increase manufacturing costs and operational efficiency of converters when making corrugated packaging.
The C550 is designed to increase productivity while delivering consistent offset print quality by using HP‘s Thermal Inkjet technology and true water-based inks.
It can produce Flexo- and Litho-boxes at a constant speed 90 m/min.
Additionally, the C550 claims to optimise inventories and reduce obsolescence. It also speeds up turnaround times via digital printing technology.
The new press was designed to assist packaging converters in achieving circular economy goals.
HP post-print corrugated solutions general manager David Tomer said: “HP is continuing its investment in the packaging market to create new opportunities for packaging converters and brands to benefit from the analogue to digital transformation.
“We are very excited to deliver the C550 press to the corrugated industry. It builds on the field-proven success and efficiency of the C500 press. This press allows converters to produce Flexo and Litho boxes economically at high speeds, without slowing the press down.
“We are constantly working on innovative solutions that not only improve post-print stability and productivity for converters, but also meet the quality and flexibility demands of brands for packaging.”
Later this year, the C550 press will become available for installation.
HP already has a contract with Saica Group, a Spanish corrugated packaging company, to install the press at their Viana operations.
The press will be installed later this year and is expected to increase the facility’s production of corrugated packaging.
HP collaborated with HYBRID Software to create a prepress workflow that allows packaging to seamlessly transition artwork between litho and flexo formats.
The company purchased Choose Packaging last February in an effort strengthen its capabilities on the sustainable packaging market.
