Prosecutors claimed that the student threatened suicide and then showed the gun to the teachers. Investigators later discovered the gun did not have any bullets.

HOUSTON — A Chavez High School student was arrested Tuesday for allegedly bringing a 3D-printed gun to campus.

Initially, the bond for the 18-year old was set at $35,000. But, Thursday’s ruling by a judge raised it up to $1 million. He stated that he takes this case very seriously.

Court records show that it started with Alexander Teran talking to a staff member.

The prosecutor stated that the defendant said all teachers should have guns. “He believes everyone at school should have a gun.”

The prosecution stated that the conversation became so bizarre that staff started pushing students into adjacent classrooms.

“Yeah, you better get her out of here,” the prosecutor claimed Teran said.

According to prosecutors, he then threatened to kill his self.

According to court records, Teran was asked by teachers how he would do it. He then flashed his gun.

Prosecutors said that the student carried a 3D-printed gun concealed under his shirt.

Later, investigators discovered that the gun was not loaded with bullets. Teran’s lawyer used this argument to reduce his bond from $35,000.

“He couldn’t have harmed anybody. Joshua Willoughby said that there weren’t any bullets. “There was no possibility to ignite this weapon, as there was no bullet present. Your honor.”

Willoughby claimed Teran was making an appeal for mental health, but the judge disagreed and raised Teran’s bond to $1,000,000.

Judge Danilo Lacayo stated, “I must obey the law and I believe a million dollars in this case is sufficient to ensure the safety of the communities.” “Sorry. But that is the way it will have to be.

Judge Danilo asked the prosecution to examine the 3D-printed gun in order to determine whether it was a weapon after resetting the case.

Teran has had a mental health evaluation.

Houston ISD released this statement:

Principal Martinez is sending this important message to parents at Chavez High School. An incident occurred just before dismissal yesterday. A student came to our office seeking help. The student was found to have a prohibited weapon. The weapon was taken by our officers, who also made sure that no one was hurt. These situations are very serious. Safety of students and staff is our highest priority.
