Thebe Magugu is a renowned South African designer known for his compelling collections that are infused with narratives. He has now introduced wax-print shirts which can be customised with the customer’s own image and name. The NFT version will be given to each buyer who customizes and purchases the shirt through his platform. Preorders are available on the designer’s official website and are set to be dispatched starting 10th December 2023. The system was developed in collaboration between Commission, a London-based design and branding agency, and Official Business a British digital design studio.
These heirloom shirts feature black-and-white portraits that pay homage to African wax prints, which often portray significant historical figures. Magugu emphasizes that, when a customer enters the customisation details, and their image, it will generate a 3D, full-360-degree preview of the tailored shirt in real-time. Magugu’s production capacity is 400 wax-printed shirts with the option to alter them.
